Former President Barack Obama will address the nation on his website Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET, amid national unrest over the killing of 46-year-old African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Floyd died on May 25 after a white police officer pressed his knee on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes during an arrest. The death has sparked mass protests throughout the nation.

The livestream will feature former Attorney General Eric Holder, along with activists against police brutality.

The virtual event is titled "Reimagining Policing in the Wake of Continued Police Violence," and is organized by My Brother's Keeper Alliance, an Obama Foundation initiative.

Obama hopes to encourage Americans to turn their protests into policy with the speech.

Earlier in the week, Obama said he wants all Americans to create a “new normal” where bigotry and unjust discrimination would be erased from society.

This will be Obama's first video response about the protests.
