Happy National Boyfriend Day!

Whether you have a man in your life or not, there’s still reason to celebrate the unofficial holiday. These fictional characters will give you 15 reasons, actually.

From sweet to sexy to smart and sensitive, these TV and movie men have it all. And what they lack, they make up in almost every other factor. Boyfriend or not, there’s no harm in a little daydreaming about these fictional characters. But, oh, if only they were real.

Patrick, “10 Things I Hate About You”

Whether it starts off as pretend or not, Patrick knows when he’s got a good thing going. He also knows that in order to make up for a big mistake, a grand gesture is necessary. Someone singing for you is sweet enough, but add singing it in public and with a marching band all while being chased and all of a sudden it’s off the sweetness meter. That accent, that hair, that hard exterior that makes you want to find out more about the real him he hides underneath. While this is mainly talking about the film character, the TV character would be a good option, too.

Austin, “A Cinderella Story”

The attractive, popular football player who happens to be incredibly smart and a sensitive writer and reader, what more could you want? While he doesn’t claim to be more than human and is still capable of making mistakes, like not standing up to those around him for himself and the ones he cares about at first, he does learn from his mistakes. It might take him until the rain eventually comes, but, hey, no one’s perfect. Austin just gets extremely close.

Erwin, “The Edge of Seventeen”

On the surface, he’s adorable and sweet and then once you get to know him, he’s that and more. He ends up being sexy and smart and talented and more confident than you realized and outgoing and funny and interesting. He has so many layers and each one gets better and better. He makes you think about the world, about yourself and about others. He’s who one needs in their lives.

Rainer, “Famous in Love”

Even when the words aren’t written for him, he still always knows just what smooth thing to say to have a girl wanting to be more than just friends with him. Besides being smooth and attractive and charming, he’s a talented actor, too. He’s also reflective enough to know he needs to work on himself as a person and is willing to start to put in the work. Plus, he’s got all the right moves to make a girl swoon.

Cappie, “Greek”

Goofy and endearing, Cappie is the guy you just can’t help but smile around and have a good time with. He doesn’t take things too seriously and likes to have fun, but also eventually realizes when things need a little bit more of his attention. He might not always get everything in a relationship right on the first, second or third try, but he’s the kind of guy you can’t help but believe deserves those few extra chances.

Dr. Jackson Avery, “Grey’s Anatomy”

Those eyes. That white coat. His sensitive nature. Jackson is the beautiful – inside and out – doctor who we all fantasy about being with and having in our lives.

Derek, “Hit The Floor”

The bad boy basketball player who can be tamed by the right significant other is what people dream of on National Boyfriend Day…and all other days. He’s sexy, charming, confident with a soft and loving and sweet side that he keeps close to his chest and only lets out around the one he cares most about.

Emmett, “Legally Blonde”

When the world seems to look down on you or when the world seems to no longer have faith in you, Emmett will. He’ll trust you and life you up when you’re feeling down. He’ll give you the strength that you need if you don’t have it for yourself in that moment. He’s quirky and cute, smart and sensitive, he’s the total package.

Jordan Catalano, “My So-Called Life”

A little brooding never hurt no one. And a lot of brooding from Jordan Catalano only helps everyone. He’s popular, but quiet. It sometimes takes him a while to realize what he wants but when he finally comes to the realization, he’ll make the sweetest, simplest gesture to show you and the world his decision. The luscious locks and look-into-your-soul eyes definitely don’t hurt either.

Seth, “The O.C.”

The cute, loveable nerd is the basis of Seth, but he’s so much more than that. He’s devoted to the people around him. He’s caring and will go out of his way for his loved ones. He believes the best in people. His goal is to make other people happier. He’s sarcastic and funny and will always be there to make you laugh.

Nathan Scott, “One Tree Hill”

He’s incredibly loving and very goal-oriented. He wants to accomplish a lot in his life – both career-wise and family-wise. His ambitions are very attractive, but it’s his way of putting his family first that makes him even greater.

Derek, “Save The Last Dance”

Someone who is willing to spend all of his free time to help someone else is a special kind of person. Derek is that person. He cares about his family deeply, so he’s constantly helping out. When he comes across a woman he cares deeply about, he spends all of his energy on her and helping her achieve her goals, no matter the costs to him. He’s loyal to his friends and will do just about anything for them, but is smart enough to realize when a friendship has reached its limit.

James Olsen, “Supergirl”

He’s talented with a camera and would be a great Instagram husband. He’s kind and would always try his best to be there for loved ones and to support them. He’s strong and wants nothing more than to help others and protect those closest to him.

Stiles, “Teen Wolf”

Smart and sweet and cute, those are great attributes to have in a boyfriend. Not to mention he’s willing to go head-first into danger for those he loves.

Logan, “Veronica Mars”

Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls on “Veronica Mars.” UPN

Sure, he might be a little bit of a bad boy, but he’s an incredibly caring bad boy. And yes, he might be a little bit of a mess and might mess up often, but caring about someone makes him want to be better. At least to try to be better. Plus, he’d keep you on your toes and would be a fun sparring partner. All the while saying sweet things in a sexy, smug way just when you forgot that he’s actually very sweet.
