U.S. President Joe Biden was treated to a 50% discount at a Los Angeles taco outlet Thursday. A restaurant employee said Biden qualified for the deal because of his "public service" record.

The POTUS was touring the Westwood area of southern California, along with Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., when he stopped at Tacos 1986 for a takeout lunch Thursday.

"Takeout order for Bass," Biden said before asking how much he needed to pay. The cheque totaled $16.45 after the discount. However, Biden paid $60, asking the cashier to use the change to pay for the next person placing an order at the outlet.

Biden's order consisted of two quesadillas and six tacos for his team. He also ordered a chicken quesadilla for himself, according to a White House transcript.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are known to make such stops during official visits. During a Wisconsin trip in June last year, Biden stopped at Pearl Ice Cream Parlor & Confectionery in La Crosse and ordered a double-dipped sugar cone with cookies and cream and strawberry, CBS News reported. He also bought ice cream for other lawmakers, including Governor Tony Evers and Sen. Tammy Baldwin.

Months after taking office, Harris made an unscheduled visit to a vegan taco outlet in Las Vegas in March last year and ordered a black bean burrito, USA Today reported.

Biden traveled to southern California this week, after a stopover in Colorado. He is expected to travel to Oregon on Friday to campaign for incumbent Democratic Governor Kate Brown, who faces tough competition in the midterm polls.

Reporters present at the LA taco shop asked Biden if he was planning to travel to Nevada, Arizona or Georgia in the coming days and he replied, "Yeah, I am going to other races. I can not tell you how many, but I am going to be on the road."

He was also questioned about the rising inflation and spike in gas prices in California.

"Have you seen gas prices around here in LA? It's seven bucks a gallon almost," a reporter asked. Biden responded, "Well, that's always been the case here. You know, it's not — what — nationwide, they came down about $1.35, and they're still down over a dollar."
