KEY POINTS

  • Billie Eilish's "No Time to Die" single was released in February 2020
  • The James Bond theme song is also certified platinum in Canada and Australia
  • The soundtrack for "No Time to Die" became the highest-charting Bond album in the U.K. in the history of the film franchise

Billie Eilish has another reason to celebrate. Her single "No Time to Die," the theme song for the new James Bond movie of the same name, has gone platinum in the U.K.

The song, which was released in February 2020, has now been bought or streamed on-demand more than 1 million times in the U.K. The track is also certified platinum in other countries, including Canada and Australia, NME reported.

The official James Bond Twitter account congratulated Eilish Friday on the success of her single. A snap shared by the account showed Eilish and her brother and writing partner Finneas posing with "No Time to Die" stars Daniel Craig and Rami Malek at the official platinum record presentation.

"Congratulations to @BillieEilish for her single #NoTimeToDie going platinum. Here are Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Billie Eilish, and @Finneas at the #NoTimeToDie screening event and platinum record presentation," the tweet read.

Last year, Eilish, then-18, became the youngest artist, and first woman, to get the no. 1 spot in U.K. charts with a Bond song, the BBC reported. "No Time to Die" was also her first U.K. no. 1 single, with the track going on to break a record for the most 007 single sales.

In the U.S., the song debuted at no. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the highest-charting Bond theme on the chart since Adele's "Skyfall," which debuted and peaked at no. 8 in 2012.

Pianist, composer and arranger Enrique Lazaro praised prolific film score composer Hans Zimmer and Eilish's work for "No Time to Die." According to him, the song "fits perfectly in the movie."

Meanwhile, Zimmer’s soundtrack for "No Time to Die" recently became the highest-charting James Bond album in the U.K. in the history of the film franchise, Independent reported.

The soundtrack album debuted at no. 7 in the Official Charts Company rankings following the release of the "No Time to Die" movie last week. The organization compiles charts for the British record industry based on physical sales, paid-for downloads and streaming.

"The triumphant return of Bond, James Bond, this autumn has been a huge film for the nation post-lockdown and the incredible success of the soundtrack album has emphasized quite how much we love a Bond score," said Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company.

He continued, "The involvement this time of Billie Eilish and Johnny Marr alongside Hans Zimmer has broadened the audience for this OST more than ever before. We have had to wait, but it was certainly well worth waiting for."

Last month, Eilish shared a hidden treat for Bond fans in the theme song. According to the Grammy winner, her track features the classic Bond opening sting.

"You can’t do a Bond song without it sounding like a Bond song," she said on the Bond film’s official podcast. "If you listen closely, you can hear [the classic Bond opening sting] in the second verse. It’s very subtle and it’s very echoed. We decided to do that though."

"No Time to Die," which marks Craig's final Bond film, is now showing in theaters.
