KEY POINTS

  • Blackpink will headline Coachella's Day 2 shows on April 15 and 22
  • The pop group became the first ever K-pop artist to headline Coachella
  • Blackpink first performed in one of the biggest U.S. music festivals in 2019

Blackpink is now the first-ever K-pop artist in history to headline Coachella, one of the biggest music festivals in the United States.

On Monday, music promoter Goldenvoice announced the official artist lineup for the annual music and arts festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, via Coachella's Twitter account.

It was revealed that the four-member South Korean pop girl group, consisting of members Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa, would be performing on the highly anticipated festival's main stage on April 15 and 22, making them the first K-pop group in Coachella's history to headline the festival, Soompi reported.

Other performers on the same days include Rosalia, Eric Prydz, boygenius, $uicideboy$, Kid Laroi, Charlie XCX, and many more.

The quartet joins other iconic music artists, including Björk, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish, on the list of female headliners who performed at the giant U.S. festival in Coachella Valley.

But this isn't the first time Blackpink will perform at Coachella. About four years ago, the international phenomenon debuted in the music festival as the first-ever K-pop girl group to make the Coachella stage.

According to Rolling Stone, the girl group was pretty much overwhelmed at the time, with their main dancer, Lisa, 25, even looking over to the crowd and asking, "Is this real, or is this a computer effect?"

The girl group has since achieved more success, breaking more music records than most popular girl groups globally, the outlet noted.

Although Blackpink won't be revealing their setlist any time soon, fans could expect them to perform songs from their sophomore album, titled "Born Pink," released in September, including their record-breaking singles "Pink Venom" and "Shut Down." The former accumulated about 7.9 million streams on Spotify within the first 24 hours of its release, while the latter recently hit the 300 million view count only three months after its release.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival would be happening on two weekends in April, starting April 14 to 16 and April 21 to 23. The same set of artists will be performing on both weekends, respectively.

On the first day, Bad Bunny would be headlining the Coachella stage, becoming the first-ever Latin artist in the 24-year history of the music festival to do so, Rolling Stone reported.

He would also be performing on the first day of the second weekend, on April 21, along with other artists Gorillaz, Burna Boy, Chemical Brothers, Kaytranada, Blondie and Becky G.

Meanwhile, Frank Ocean would be making his most-awaited comeback after his last worldwide tour, which concluded in 2017. Since then, he has been out of the limelight and only released new music two years later, dropping the album "Wabi-sabi" in 2019. Day 3 performers consist of Bjork, Kali Uchis, Porter Robinson, Fisher, Chris Lake, Jackson Wang, and many others.

Concertgoers can still register for passes to the annual music festival on Coachella's official website. The pre-sale begins on Friday at 11 a.m. PT.
