Another homicide has been reported at Bloomfield Way at south Macon. The latest incident is the 40th in Bibb County, and it’s the third this week. The body of a woman with a bullet wound was found in her car on Sunday night, according to Chief Coroner Leon Jones.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Tynesha Hammonds. Jones described this as another “senseless” death, 13wmaz reported. An altercation is said to be the cause of the death, but the specific details are yet to be ascertained. The crime lab will collect the evidence, and the investigation is on.

Hammonds was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m. Jones has confirmed that an autopsy will be performed. The chief coroner emphasized that this has been a deadly year for the county, and he repeated that this is the 40th death this year and the third this week.

Sergeant Clay Williams, who is with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, has confirmed that they are investigating this death as a homicide. There were 30 reported deaths in the county last year, and that number has already reached 40 this year.

According to a previous report by Macon, gunfire led to the deaths of two people at Bloomfield Drive on April 25 this year. The body of a woman identified as Daija Jordan, 21, was found near a car, and the dead man was identified as 23-year-old Keyon Terrell Hogan, whose body was found on the street with multiple bullet wounds. Bibb County Superior Court records revealed that Hogan was arrested on May 27 last year for possession of Marijuana with an intent to distribute. He was sentenced to six years on probation.

Those two deaths were the 13th and the 14th homicides for the year. Jones, who was also there at the scene of the crime at that time, had said that they should never give up and continue to pray.

While the deaths at Bloomfield Way continue to be a cause for concern, there have been breakthrough in cases that seemed impossible to crack. According to a report by Macon, GBI was able to make an arrest on a 27-year-old case this year.

Sabrina Long, 19, was last seen at her stepfather’s house, which is located in the Bloomfield neighborhood, on Aug. 14, 1991 . GBI made a breakthrough in this cold case when they arrested 46-years-old Melinda McSwain in Broxton for kidnapping.
