Bobby Shmurda is a free man after serving six years at a New York correction facility. But the troubled rapper continued making a fortune despite serving time in prison.

Born Ackquille Jean Pollard of Miami, Florida, the rapper was arrested after he was found with two handguns and a small amount of cocaine at a New York City recording studio in 2014. He and other defendants were later charged with murder, attempted murder and drug dealing, Fox News reports.

The rapper’s net worth is valued at $400,000, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com. His imprisonment did not stop Shmurda’s creativity and ability to increase his net worth. It was reported that the rapper continued writing while serving his sentence.

Vibe reported that Shmurda wrote two screenplays while incarcerated. He also freestyled rap for fellow rapper Meek Mill and was featured in rapper 6ix9ine’s song “Stoopid” that both happened in February 2017. Aside from his music, Shmurda also earns an average of $7.75 per week while working at the Clinton Correctional Facility.

Bobby Shmurda skyrocketed to fame with the release of his song "Hot N*gga" in 2014. Its accompanying music video recorded a million views within two months. The song catapulted the rapper from an unknown New York musician into stardom. He is best known for the Shmoney dance that saw covers ranging from singer Beyonce to dancers and Tiktok personalities.

The viral success of the song led Epic Records to take in the then-19-year-old rapper. The label released the song as Shmurda’s debut single. It landed atop the Billboard Hot R&B Hip-Hop charts, and peaked at the sixth spot in the Billboard Hot 100. The song was supposed to be followed by the release of his debut album under Epic. However, the label postponed it with news of his imprisonment.

After six years of prison time, Leslie Pollard, the rapper’s mother, sat down for an interview with TMZ. She revealed that Shmurda will keep it lowkey after his conditional release. She added that the rapper just wanted to have an intimate dinner with his family after his release and keep things down low while continuing his passion for making music.
