Filming has once again gotten underway, albeit with some new restrictions and precautions, on CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and fans may be in for a treat when it comes to the show’s highly-anticipated return.

After a long hiatus in filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced CBS to air themed older episodes of both “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless,” to air in place of new content, “B&B” has officially returned to filming. While new guidelines due to health are in place to protect the cast and crew, one thing that hasn’t changed is the kind of storylines that will air on the show once the new episodes make it to television screens.

Here are three big storylines fans might be able to look forward to.

Steffy Finally Gets A Non-Spencer Love Interest

While most of Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) storylines when it comes to romance have been wrapped up in Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton), she has had forays in recent years that saw her sleeping with his father, Bill (Don Diamont) and marrying his brother, Wyatt (Darin Brooks). Still, no matter who she’s been with, Steffy has seemingly kept her romantic exploits focused on the Spencer family. That could change following a new casting reveal.

According to TV Line, Tanner Novlan (who fans may recognize from a Liberty Mutual insurance commercial-see above), has been cast in the new role of Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan—and he is meant to serve as a love interest for single mom and Forrester co-CEO Steffy.

What that could mean for her on/off love Liam, who has finally and officially reunited with Hope (Annika Noelle), remains to be seen, but since the show loves a good love triangle, it likely won’t be long before some new drama surfaces in this group again.

Zende Returns

The same report stating that Novlan was joining the show also dropped the news that Zende Forrester was also returning to town. Now being portrayed by Delon de Metz, it is unclear what will bring him back, but if he returns alone, it could bring some new intrigue into a long-stagnant storyline following Maya Avant (Karla Moseley).

When Zende was last seen, he had married Maya’s sister Nicole (Reign Edwards) and they headed to Paris to work at Forrester International. Maya and Rick (Jacob Young) followed not long after, but Maya returned to L.A. in 2019 with a bombshell announcement that she and Rick had divorced, but she hasn’t said anything else since. With Zende coming back, if he too is divorced from Nicole, it could bring more insight into what happened to what seemed like two powerful marriages and could give more screen time to the Avant family, who virtually disappeared after becoming a huge focus on the show when Maya was revealed to be transgender.

Flo’s Big Rescue

Of course, fans also likely want to know how the big cliffhanger the show ended on comes to a close. When fans last saw the show, Wyatt was coming home and potentially saw a supposedly deathly-ill Sally (Courtney Hope) and Dr. Penny (Monica Ruiz) dragging an unconscious Flo (Katrina Bowden) out of the living room after Penny knocked her out when she threatened to reveal the truth about the pair’s scheme. While Brooks didn’t give anything away in an interview back in May, producer Bradley Bell told Associated Press that a big rescue scene was in the works for Flo, and to go along with safety protocols following the Coronavirus, Bowden’s real-life husband, Ben Jorgensen, was brought in to help film safely.

Revealing to Associated Press that Flo would be kidnapped and chained to a radiator (believed to be the continuation of the previous storyline), her on-screen boyfriend, Wyatt, would be the one who comes to her rescue. However, when the moment for an emotional embrace came up, Jorgensen subbed in for Brooks and filled the need.

“It really called for a big embrace and a kiss,” Bell said. “So once she was freed, we stopped tape, Katrina’s husband came in and they finished the scene. We see the back of his head, and I think it’s very convincing it’s really Darin.”

“The Bold and the Beautiful” airs weekdays at 1:30 p.m. EDT on CBS. A premiere date for new episodes has not been revealed.
