One of the most anticipated moments of this year's Cannes Film Festival was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's red carpet debut as an engaged couple. Through the years the two have supported one another during each other's film premieres -- working the red carpet together for The Assassination of Jesse James, The Changeling, and Tree of Life. The famed duo known as Brangelina have repeatedly walked the red steps of the Palace of Festivals. Yet at Tuesday evening's premiere of Pitt's film Killing Them Softly, Jolie was nowhere in sight. Fans who had lined the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of the photogenic pair were seriously disappointed.

If Pitt is facing relationship difficulties he gave no indication of such: He stayed close to co-star Ray Liotta and graciously interacted with fans. He was all smiles as he snapped photos of the screaming crowd with his phone -- and when he reached the entrance of the theater, he made a point to wave to the excited fans on both sides of the palace.

At an earlier press conference for Killing Them Softly, Pitt indicated that he and Jolie are in no rush to sign on the dotted line. We actually, really and truly, have no date, he told reporters, according to US Weekly. It's just something that makes sense to us, and certainly date-wise, it's just a rumor... We're still hoping that we can figure out marriage equality in the States before that date.

Killing them Softly, directed by Andrew Dominick, has already earned the actor critical praise and early Oscar buzz. Overcrowded Cannes screenings indicate that the film is an audience favorite -- it's being touted as one of the best productions in the annual film event's lineup.
