The film distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment won the Home Media Awards for Title of the Year and Theatrical Home Release, Variety reported.

Pitt and Tarantino have won multiple awards for the movie. Pitt's role in the flick, showcasing his status as one of the most popular hollywood actors, earned him the following recognitions from different award-giving bodies: Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actor, Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Tarantino was recognized as Best Director at AACTA International Award 2020. The movie also won Best Screenplay at the Golden Globe Awards, Critics' Choice Movie Awards, and New York Film Critics Circle Awards. It received 10 Academy Awards nominations and won two including Best Production Design. It was also chosen by the National Board of Review, American Film Institute, and Time magazine as among the 10 best films of the year.

In an interview with Esquire in May 2019, Tarantino confessed that the hit film was almost never made a movie at all. He spent five years writing it as a novel and considered it "the most personal" film for him.

"I think of it like my memory piece. Alfonso [Cuarón] had Roma and Mexico City, 1970. I had L. A. and 1969. This is me. This is the year that formed me. I was six years old then. This is my world. And this is my love letter to L. A.," he said.

Meanwhile, in the "Pure Cinema" podcast, Tarantino opened up about his plans for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." According to him, he might write a novel about it which was his original plan.

"I hadn't thought about that until recently," he said. "But now I'm thinking a lot about it. I might be writing a novelization to 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'."
