  • Britney Spears was put under conservatorship in 2008
  • Her father filed a petition to end the conservatorship earlier this month
  • The next court date is scheduled for Sept. 29

Netflix has dropped a teaser for "Britney Vs Spears," a new documentary that explores Britney Spears' conservatorship battle against her father, Jamie Spears.

The streaming giant took to Twitter Tuesday to share an eighteen-second audio clip, which is apparently from a voicemail the singer sent to a lawyer on Jan. 21, 2009.

"Hi. My name is Britney Spears," it begins. "I called you earlier. I'm calling again because I just wanted to make sure that during the process of eliminating the conservatorship..."

The audio clip ends abruptly, then the title "Britney Vs Spears" appears on the screen. It is followed by the words, "Trailer tomorrow," which suggests a full trailer is coming out Wednesday.

Fans took to the comments section to share their reaction to the teaser.

"This is gonna be SO good!!! And right before the next court date! More sh-t is gonna come out. I can feel it," one of the fans wrote.

In response to this tweet, another fan noted, "That's why daddy dearest filed termination... from all the damage he's done the money laundering it's too late for them now."

However, a fan who goes by the name Shelly on the platform said they would not support the documentary if Britney did not approve or isn't getting paid for it. "She's been exploited enough," the netizen wrote.

A fan reacted to this tweet, writing, "Oh really Shelly?! That's great! Considering the previous projects like Framing Britney Spears have helped the public interest and the case is so clever to boycott something that's working in her favor - while her dad spends millions in media matters!"

Meanwhile, another fan responded to Netflix's announcement, saying, "Y'all better make this team Britney, or you will have the Britney army to calm down. We will end you, you have been warned."

The documentary is helmed by director Erin Lee Carr. It has been in the works for more than a year, according to Variety.

Earlier this month, the singer's father unexpectedly filed a petition to end the conservatorship. In his filing, Jamie noted that her daughter may no longer need the legal arrangement because she "has told this court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship."

The next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.

"Britney Vs Spears" is not the first documentary based on the pop superstar's conservatorship battle. In February, Hulu dropped "Framing Britney Spears," which provided fans an insight into the legal battle and reignited the #FreeBritney movement on social media.
