Bruce Jenner might have been texting when he rear-ended a car, causing a deadly accident, TMZ reported. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department wants to check the former Olympian’s call and text log after he hit a car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu Saturday.

But it’s not just the Kardashian-Jenner patriarch -- all drivers will probably be asked to provide their phones so authorities can check the call and text logs, the Associated Press reported. If the people involved in the multivehicle crash do not comply, investigators could seek search warrants.

If it’s determined he was on his cell phone, Jenner, who wasn’t hurt in the incident, could be charged with vehicular manslaughter -- though it could be hard to determine, TMZ said. Photos from right before the crash show Jenner holding something in his left hand though it’s not clear if it’s his phone.

All of the vehicles are also being inspected to see if a defect stopped one of the drivers from stopping in time.

It’s not believed paparazzi were chasing Jenner at the time of the crash although they were not far behind him. In fact, they were close enough to catch pictures of the accident as it happened. "PCH is a straight road. There's no place to go to evade," LA County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Philip Brooks told the AP. "Being a celebrity, he's often followed by the paparazzi and he's aware of that. He was on his way home, and they happen to know his route."

Police said Jenner tried to prevent the accident based on skid marks, TMZ reported. He veered right, but was unable to avoid striking a white Lexus. The Lexus flew into oncoming traffic and was hit by a Hummer. The crash killed the driver of the Lexus, a 69-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Though phone use could be to blame for the fatal accident, authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor. "He did not appear intoxicated or under the influence of anything at the time," the sergeant said.

Jenner, 65, might currently be best known for his role on the hit reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” but he became a national hero after he won the gold medal as a decathlete in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. He recently divorced his wife of 23 years, Kris Jenner, and has battled rumors that he is transitioning into a woman.
