  • The fifth season of “Call of Duty Warzone” is due to start on August 5 and could finally add five-player teams to the game

Since releasing just this past March 10, “Call of Duty: Warzone” has already attracted over 75 million players.

This was announced by Activision Blizzard on Tuesday as part of the publisher’s financial results for the second quarter that ended June 30. That number is up from the 60 million players reported at the end of the company’s first quarter, notes Video Games Chronicle.

Activision also noted that the free-to-play battle royale “Call of Duty: Warzone” actually helped drive strong “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” sales for the second quarter as well.

“Modern Warfare added more players outside of a launch quarter to the premium Call of Duty experience than ever before, with the majority coming through upgrades from Warzone,” the developer said.

Since releasing in October 2019, Activision also announced that “Call of Duty Mobile” has surpassed 250 million downloads. In addition, Treyarch and Raven Software are developing “Call of Duty 2020.” The developer also gave the clearest indication yet that “Call of Duty 2020” will be revealed via Warzone.

Asked about plans to reveal the game during its second quarter earnings call, Activision president Robert Kostich said, “All I can say in terms of timing is I expect you’ll be hearing more about this fairly soon.”

“’Warzone’ has caused up to rethink how, when and even where we reveal our upcoming titles, so we can’t wait to share with the community and we think it’s going to be very different and more engaging than anything we’ve ever done before,” Kostich added.

“Call of Duty Warzone” Season 5 is due to start on August 5 and could finally add five-player teams to the game. The fifth season will see the opening of the stadium and “Warzone” as well as the introduction of a train that travels around the Verdansk map.

Video Games Chronicle notes that Season 5 will also introduce new operatives from Shadow Company, an elite private military company with “a framework and agenda all of their own.”

Developer Infinity Ward recently confirmed that “Call of Duty: Warzone” will eventually tie in with other “Call of Duty” games beyond “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.”
