  • D’Amelio’s feat comes a few days after she lost a million followers over her and sister Dixie's dinner controversy

TikTok sensation Charli D'Amelio reflected on her quick rise to internet fame after becoming the first TikToker to reach 100 million followers on the platform. The achievement comes amid several controversies surrounding her and the D’Amelio family.

D’Amelio, who began her journey on TikTok in May 2019, was ecstatic and shocked after achieving 100 million subscribers Sunday.

"I hit 100 million on TikTok," she said in an Instagram Live video. "I don't even know how to react, mostly because this doesn't feel real. How do people even react to this? I just genuinely don't know what to do."

"I'm in my bathroom by myself watching edits on Twitter because they're making me cry and I just genuinely do not know what to do. I'm so confused. Just, life doesn't feel real," she added in the live stream that was watched in real time by over 300,000 people.

D’Amelio recalled that around this time last year, she was still living a normal life in Connecticut with her family and going to school.

"It's just so weird to think like a little over a year ago I was in Connecticut doing regular school, doing nothing and now I'm living in L.A.," she shared. "If COVID wasn't a thing, I'd have like a 100 million-person meet and greet right now. But that's not possible."

Shortly after the live stream, the TikTok star posted another video thanking her fans for helping her break the record.

"Thank you guys so, so, so much," she said. "I cannot believe there's 100 million supporters following me right now. That is insane. Oh my goodness. I still can't grasp that this is real. I still feel like it's a dream. I'm kind of waiting to wake up. Very insane. Oh my goodness. Thank you."

Fans of the TikTok star were thrilled for her and sent her congratulatory messages.

"baby's 100M!! you are AWESOME, you deserve all of this and I am sure you will get a lot more, there is still a lot saved for you Charli ...I really love you, thank you for everything you've done for us," wrote one Twitter user.

"@charlidamelio my daughter baked a cake for you to congratulate you on 100 million," wrote another.

"I just found out that one of my countrymen posted a picture of Charlie saying that Charlie was not doing well dancing and tried to bully her father for being a drug addict. Really, it bothers me,” wrote one user on Twitter.

This milestone comes just days after D'Amelio lost a million followers over her alleged "rude" behavior in a YouTube video uploaded last week titled "Dinner with the D’Amelios." In the video, she playfully complained to friend and dinner guest James Charles about having only 95 million followers and not 100 million.

D’Amelio, along with sister Dixie, was also criticized for her seemingly disrespectful behavior toward their personal chef, Aaron May, after she made faces while he described the menu.

D'Amelio began hemorrhaging TikTok followers soon after the controversy, leaving her in tears. In a heartfelt Instagram Live video posted Thursday, she talked about not "wanting to do it anymore," possibly hinting at plans to quit TikTok in the future.
