  • Charlize Theron reveals she was sexually harassed by a director in 1994
  • She "blames" herself for not doing enough to stop him
  • Theron confronted the directed years later but was not fully "satisfied"

Charlize Theron has revealed that she blamed herself for enduring sexual harassment at the hands of a filmmaker 25 years ago. The actress confessed that she should have done “enough” to stop him from doing such malicious activity.

Speaking in an interview with NPR, the 44-year-old actress claimed that she was molested by a filmmaker in the year 1994 when she went to his house for an audition. He touched her leg inappropriately before she apologized and left the house.

The actress has now confessed that she has spent a lot of time thinking about it and blamed herself for the encounter because she thinks she did not do enough to make him stop during such a situation.

“I put a lot of blame on myself that I did not say all the right things, and that I did not tell him to take a hike, and that I did not do all of those things that we so want to believe we will do in those situations,” Theron said.

Theron’s revelation comes just a couple of weeks after she denied that she did not sleep with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein to get roles. In an interview with The New York Times, the “Bombshell” actress revealed that Weinstein was good at pitting women against each other.

Later in the interview, the acclaimed star noted that she did confront the director years later after the alleged encounter but did not feel “satisfied” at that time because it did not bring “full closure” for her. She also admitted that women never get a moment where the tables are turned and the world sees that the accused is finally getting what he deserves.

“I have heard this repeatedly in hearing other women’s stories, and that is the unfortunate thing about sexual harassment. You never get that moment where you feel like the tables have reversed and now he is finally getting it,” Theron said.

When asked why the name of the director who harassed her hasn’t been made public, the Academy Award-winning star explained that she disclosed the director’s name during various interviews but the journalists never mentioned his name.

In related news, Theron is currently promoting her movie “Bombshell” in which she plays the role of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly who decided to take on Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network.

The movie has received positive reviews and critics have applauded Theron for her acting skills. The actress has been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award in the Best Actress category.
