Coming off of two TV shows, Disney Channel’s “Live & Maddie” and Audience Network’s “Ice,” 16-year-old Chloe East is (probably) ready to switch things up a bit.

She’s found her answer in ABC’s new hour-long dramedy, “Kevin (Probably) Saves The World,” which debuts Tuesday night. East stars as Reese in the network series, who is dealing with the loss of her father, life with her busy hardworking mom, Amy (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), and the return of her absentee uncle, Kevin (Jason Ritter).

The show follows Kevin as he’s seemingly randomly chosen by God to save the world, all the while trying to rebuild his relationships with his niece Reese and twin sister Amy.

Of course, Reese has no idea her uncle is on this angelic assignment, which leads to an even more interesting and trying relationship between them.

As a fantasy-dramedy, this series is far different from her Disney Channel sitcom and her Audience Network crime drama. East, 16, explains how she got involved in the project, what she’s learned most from her cast and what viewers can expect of her character’s relationship with Ritter’s character.

International Business Times: You’re on set with a lot of veteran TV actors, have you picked up any acting tips or tricks?

Chloe East: Yeah, of course. I’ve learned so much on any of the jobs that I’ve done in the past. It’s impossible for me to not learn and it’s what I love about it. I love learning in any aspect of life, so it’s just amazing. I have truly learned so much. And I think the main thing that I’ve learned on this show is being humble. I think everyone on this show is very humble and it’s very nice to see. Just people being good people. Not caring about egos, just being humble people.

IBT: How did you get involved with this show?

East: How I got involved, first, is it came like any other audition. It was the beginning of pilot season and I got the audition and I read the full script and just really liked it. I loved it so much. I’m just glad they thought that I would be good for Reese. That’s just kind of how it happened and then a screen test and then I got it. And then it was like two days until I was in Atlanta shooting. So, it happened very fast.

IBT: What has the set atmosphere been like?

East: It’s been so much fun. The group, the energy, just the overall energy of the whole entire set is just really positive. Everyone just has a good time. Jason, Jo, the whole cast, they’re just so wonderful. Everyone just wants to make a good show, too, and I think it really shows. Everyone puts a lot of care into their roles and cares about the storyline. Everyone’s really dedicated, which is super inspiring.

IBT: This show is a dramedy, but do you have a preference between comedic or dramatic acting?

East: I don’t prefer one or the other. I think some very serious situations could be funny and very funny situations could be serious. So, I think it doesn’t really matter to me, it’s just the story is what really matters. And stories don’t have to be serious or funny, it just depends on the story.

IBT: Your character is going through a lot with her dad dying and her uncle returning out of the blue. How did you get into character?

East: I still have my dad, I haven’t lost any members of my family, so I didn’t connect in that way, but I did have to do a lot of emotional backstory to really connect to her. It’s a very different situation that I’m not used to being in because that’s not me.

IBT: What can viewers expect this season from Reese and Kevin’s relationship?

East: I think Reese and Kevin have an awesome relationship from a viewer’s perspective. I think they have a very unusual and very relatable relationship I think people will relate to whether it’s their dad or even their uncle. It’s very sweet, I think. It’s very funny, too. They have this kind of tug-o-war and battling for teasing, I guess, to see who can tease each other more. It’s very interesting and very funny.

IBT: Will Reese ever find out about Kevin’s mission to save the world?

East: I have no idea. We’re still shooting. And I would love to know, but unfortunately I have no idea. I hope. I think that would be awesome.

IBT: You’ve filmed six episodes so far. Which one is your favorite?

East: Every time we get a script for a new episode, I find myself saying, ‘This is the best episode,’ and then the next one comes out.

IBT: What should audiences know about “Kevin (Probably) Saves The World?”

East: All I got to say is, ‘Kevin Probably Saves The World’ is going to be funny, it’s going to be sad at times, but the cast is really something special. Everyone there is. It’s really cool, too, because it’s a drama, but since a lot of our cast members are comedians, too, it just adds this really funny twist to problems.

“Kevin (Probably) Saves The World” Season 1 premieres on ABC on Tuesday at 10 p.m. EDT.
