Christina Ricci says she doesn't feel like a "victim" in any way, after accusing ex-husband James Heerdegen of abusing her.

"I think it is important to say that I don't feel like a victim in any way," the 42-year-old actress told The Times. "I don't feel sorry for myself. I don't even feel like saying, 'Well, it's been a really hard road for me.'"

Ricci explained that everyone has their personal issues and this had been hers. This personal issue helped her to find her "own self-worth and position and strength and power."

She decided to share her story to encourage other women, who are willing to come out of abusive relationships.

"I tell my story only because I know that, having been in situations like the one I was in, I searched for success stories, stories of people who could get out, could get over it and just be okay," she said.

"The Addams Family" star also shared how she feels after ending the relationship.

"Now I am in this place where I am so much better than OK, that is my impetus for being honest about it," she told the outlet. "Today I am not ready to talk about it in more depth, but I do think it is important that we have examples for other women — that, as scary as it is, changing your life and saving yourself is the only choice."

Ricci was married to Heerdegen for almost seven years before she filed for divorce in July 2020. She also obtained a restraining order against her ex-husband after accusing him of severe physical and emotional abuse.

Ricci had alleged Heerdegen not only physically abused her but also mocked her by "making pig noises" in her face. The actress also claimed her 8-year-old son, Freddie, once witnessed his father spitting and throwing a chair and coffee toward her.

On the work front, Ricci will be next seen in the highly anticipated TV series "Wednesday," which will release this Wednesday on Netflix.
