KEY POINTS

  • A number of states in the U.S. may face record-breaking cold this holiday season
  • Some Midwestern regions are expected to face the coldest Christmas Day in 40 years
  • Montana has experienced temperatures close to minus 60 degrees earlier this week

A woman in Montana shared a video to show exactly how cold it was in Montana. In the footage shared Wednesday on TikTok, the woman's bedframe can be seen covered in ice as temperatures in the state reached well below zero degrees Tuesday night.

The U.S. is witnessing some never-seen-before occurrences and some areas in the Midwest may reportedly face the coldest Christmas in nearly 40 years. Millions are bracing for an unusually chilly holiday this year as the blast of arctic air continues to push its way across the country.

The Montana resident, Sarah Belle, who goes by @sarahelizabeth4444 on TikTok, posted a video showing the headboard of her bed covered in frost amid the near-freezing temperatures.

"You want to know just how cold it is in Montana? Um, this is my headboard," Belle said in the video, showing the thick layer of ice that collected on the wooden board. "This is right behind my back pillows. Holy s–t."

Belle revealed she went to her bedroom and her mouth was agape after finding out that the chill had reached her bedroom despite having sufficient insulation in her trailer home.

In a subsequent video, Belle explained that it was the least she was expecting as there are enough resources in her room to keep her warm. "Yes, I have heat," Belle said. "It is a propane heat because I live in a trailer if you can't tell. My new home is now a trailer. But it is plenty warm in here. I also have two heaters, and they just bought me a bigger heater yesterday. And in my bed, I have a sherpa blanket."

Belle's post was met with mixed responses, some of whom theorized it was the bad insulation in her home that caused the ice and not the cold weather. Others, however, appeared to shudder at the thought of what awaits in the next few days.

Meanwhile, other Montana residents took to the comment section to express mutual sympathy with Belle. "My bedroom curtain is frozen to my window," one user wrote. "My pillow froze to the window in -50 one night," another said.

Several states in the northern plains are facing the prospect of a record-breaking cold, with temperatures expected to run well into minus 50s. States like Wyoming and Montana, too, recorded considerable temperature plunges, while some regions experienced readings well below zero degrees.

So far this week, Montana has reportedly experienced temperatures below minus 60 degrees. In related news reported Thursday, the sight of iguanas falling out of trees in Florida pointed to a far more severe weather condition that will potentially unfold during Christmas.
