A police officer in Kazakhstan jumped from the window of a 13th-floor apartment to nab a pedophilia suspect. He survived the fall and was able to detain the suspect.

Police were conducting an operation to apprehend a man after he allegedly stole a large sum of money and assaulted a 15-year-old girl. Major Bakytzhan Bakirov hurriedly followed the suspect after the latter made a near-suicidal plunge from the window in an effort to flee the law enforcement, local publication KXAN 36 reported.

Bakirov posed as a plumber to gain entry into the suspect’s rented apartment on the 13th floor of a residential building in the city of Almaty. The suspect jumped off the window to escape police interrogation. Both Bakirov and the suspect landed on a terrace just two floors below.

The officer confessed that he became scared only after the operation was over. Bakirov, a father of six, said he was hell-bent on nabbing the suspect. He was later conferred with a medal for his bravery.

“There was only one thought in my head – I must detain him! I wasn’t thinking of anything else. I didn’t even understand how I made that jump, but there was no fear,” Bakirov said in an interview published on the Kazakh police website.

Bakirov, 36, had his foot seriously fractured from the fall and it was not clear if the suspect suffered any injuries.

The cop underwent three surgeries on his injured foot and doctors were expecting him to recover soon. “They say I’ll be able to chase after criminals again soon,” Bakirov added.
