David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” had all the ingredients of becoming a blockbuster movie. But even after having a star-studded cast, a unique storyline, and some pretty good visual effects, the movie received negative reviews from the critics and the audience.

Later it was claimed that Warner Bros. did not release the movie like it was intended to and changed many things. Four years of after its release, Ayer has finally opened up about how his movie with soulful drama was changed into a “comedy” by the management.

While responding to a fan about the trailer of “Suicide Squad,” the 52-year-old filmmaker shared that the first trailer of the film absolutely “nailed” the concept of the movie that he made. Later in the tweet, he explained what prompted Warner Bros. to change the tone of the project.

He revealed that the reviews of “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” completely shocked everyone and they were also really surprised to see how “Deadpool” was appreciated for its humor. So, the management decided to change the tone and turned the movie into a “comedy.”

“This trailer nailed the tone and intention of the film I made. Methodical. Layered. Complex, beautiful and sad. After the BVS reviews shell shocked the leadership at the time, and the success of Deadpool - My soulful drama was beaten into a ''comedy'' (sic)” Ayer wrote.

The changing of tone did not work well and the film received a plethora of negative reviews.

The story revolves around an intelligence officer who assembles a team of imprisoned super-villains to execute a mission.

DC characters like Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), and Joker (Jared Leto) were a part of the movie.

Vulture, in its review, wrote that “Suicide Squad” is the “worst of the worst” when it comes to storytelling. The Wall Street Journal also labeled the movie “trash.”

The movie currently holds a score of 27% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, a sequel to “Suicide Squad” will be making its way to the theaters in 2021. The movie will be helmed by James Gunn, who is known for directing Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” franchise.
