YouTuber David Dobrik has continued to face backlash for the 2020 incident that severely injured former Vlog Squad member Jeff Wittek. However, Dobrik recently opened up about the real reason Wittek has remained upset with him more than a year after the accident.

On Wednesday, Dobrik shared a new episode of his “VIEWS” video podcast in which he addressed the ongoing rift with Wittek. The accident took place in June 2020 when Dobrik was driving an excavator vehicle and swinging squad members in the air by a rope.

However, during Wittek’s turn, Dobrik increased the speed, which caused Wittek to fly into the excavator. Wittek suffered several injuries to the face, including a broken face and skull.

Although the injuries were gruesome, Dobrik revealed he doesn’t believe the incident is the main cause of his feud with Wittek.

“I think one of the main reasons Jeff is bummed with me right now is because he saw me do an interview where I said something that I promised him I’d keep between us,” Dobrik explained.

“He’s pissed that I broke a promise. He’s like, ‘Can you promise me one thing? Can you just promise that no one ever knows that this was my idea?’”

During the podcast, Dobrik referred to Wittek’s accident as “the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.” The YouTube star went on to claim he would do “anything to take that day back and be like, I wish it was me up there.”

Although he took responsibility for the incident, Dobrik insisted, “I was never up there driving that thing wanting to hurt him.”

He later added, “That’ll be the biggest regret of my life. My entire life. I really hope there’s not a moment that I regret as much as that one,” he said.

Last month on his “Jeff FM” podcast, Wittek admitted he was still upset with Dobrik over his response to the accident.

“I’ve been protecting this guy for so long, and there’s so much to this story than just him not texting me for a week after I had such a drastic surgery where I could’ve been blind,” Wittek said at the time.

Following the release of Dobrik’s latest comments about the accident, Wittek teased he would be releasing a new episode on his podcast.

“New podcast tonight. Recording now. Up in 2 hours. Don’t go to sleep yet David, you’re gonna wanna see this one,” he wrote.

The podcast has not been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
