Halloween isn’t just a holiday for two-legged creatures. In fact, dressing up and incorporating your furry, four-legged best friend can turn even your ordinary costume into a huge hit at parties or in your neighborhood.

This year, like many before, there are numerous clever and hilarious ideas to dress up your dogs for Halloween by borrowing from recent Hollywood or television hits, as well as pop culture.

Don’t be surprised if many of the costumes this year involve “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” any number of Marvel characters, the 2016 presidential election and especially the wildly popular “Pokémon GO” mobile game.

Others could transform their canine into an entirely different animal, like a spider, lion or bunny, or go for a more obvious play on words and aim for a hot dog costume. Sports, including equipment like footballs, can also be a great place to draw ideas.

While you can head to your local pet shop to generate ideas for your dog this year, many of the dog lovers who took part in the annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween dog parade over the weekend in New York can also be used as inspiration.

A good number of those costumes were either homemade for a low cost or were complemented by minor and thrifty shopping sprees at local pet stores.

Here’s a list of ideas for how to dress up your dog for Halloween 2016. Many of them can be found at Petco.com, Target, and other major or local outlets.
