In a horrific incident, a young boy was attacked and killed by a pack of dogs while his parents partied with their friends.

The incident took place in the Russian city of Ivanteevka on Saturday. The child's family was at a friend's residence to celebrate New Year when it happened, 7News reported. Local media reports said two men, three women and three children were at the home at the time.

The adults were busy drinking for three days. On Saturday, the boy – who was not identified – went to feed the dogs in the yard when the canines mauled him, Russian newspaper the Moskovskoy Komsomolets reported.

The dogs almost bit off the child's hand and nearly removed his scalp. Investigators said the child was found dead at the scene. His tattered jacket was found covered in blood next to a cage.

Police said the child's mother was intoxicated when they arrived at the scene.

The Russian Investigative Committee posted a photo of the dogs involved in the attack and said they were probing the incident.

Last month in New Zealand, a dog owner was charged after his pet attacked and killed a newborn baby. The 1-day-old was at his home when he was mauled by the large Rottweiler. The newborn's mother was in the bathroom when the attack took place. It wasn't clear how the dog reached the newborn's house.

Police said the child was rushed to a hospital but he succumbed to the injuries caused during the attack. The owner of the canine, a 21-year-old man, was charged with owning a dog that causes serious injury/death to any person.

In another incident in North Carolina, a 10-year-old girl was attacked by several dogs last month. The child was hospitalized in critical condition. At least four dogs were involved in the incident, Robeson County Sheriff Major Damien McLean said at the time. The dogs' breed was not revealed.
