Amaterasu
Amaterasu could be the next courier to be added to Valve’s “Dota 2.” Steam/Capcom

“Okami HD’s” Amaterasu could be introduced to “Dota 2” as a courier, but Capcom first needs the support of fans to make this happen. The Japanese video game company has already published photos of Amaterasu as a courier in “Dota 2’s” Steam Workshop.

On Tuesday, Capcom set up a page on Steam Workshop to present its proposal to “Dota 2” fans of bringing Amaterasu to Valve’s free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena video game. The page already has photos to show how Amaterasu would look like in the game. There’s even a short clip that shows Amaterasu in standard and flying courier animations.

Fans can now vote for Amaterasu’s inclusion into the popular MOBA. The only way for the fictional character to officially become a courier is by getting enough votes from Steam users. So far though, it looks as if Amaterasu’s inclusion would be inevitable given the very positive response from participants of the poll campaign.

The poll comes days prior the release of “Okami HD” for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Dec. 12. “Okami HD” is the remastered version of the well-loved PlayStation 2 classic, so the timing of the poll couldn’t have been more perfect. VG 24/7 says Capcom has found an interesting way to do some cross-promotion with the release of the Amaterasu mod and the imminent arrival of “Okami HD.”

For those who are not familiar with the “Okami” games, here’s a brief description of the upcoming remaster: “Experience the critically acclaimed masterpiece with its renowned Sumi-e ink art style in breathtaking high resolution. Take on the role of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess who inhabits the form of a legendary white wolf, on a quest to defeat Orochi, an eight-headed demon and tyrannical monster responsible for turning the world of Nippon into a ruined wasteland.”

It isn’t just Capcom who is eager to introduce a character from its classic game to “Dota 2.” Polygon has learned that Coffee Stain Studios has already submitted a courier mod based on the goat from “Goat Stimulator,” while Adult Swim Games has come up with a courier mod for Mr. Meeseeks from “Rick and Morty.”

In case you are wondering what a courier is — like the many Redditors asking about it online, a courier is basically a unit that’s used by 5 team members in “Dota 2” to deliver items from shops to heroes wherever they are on the map. This means couriers are designed to cut the time it takes for players to get items.

Unfortunately, a courier can be killed by opponents, and there’s a reason why enemies would do this to a team’s courier. Apparently, killing a rival team’s courier could grant the player’s team with a significant amount of gold. It should be noted also that the items a courier is bringing with it at the time of its death will be removed from the game until the courier is revived after 120 seconds.
