The Estée Lauder Companies is closing down its makeup brand Becca Cosmetics following 20 years in business.

On Wednesday, the company shared the announcement on its official website, revealing the makeup brand was forced to shut down after it was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Makeup lovers will have until the end of September 2021 to snatch up their favorite Becca Cosmetic products. After that, products will no longer be available for purchase.

“The global pandemic has had an impact on everyone around the world on many levels. It has also had a tremendous impact on so many businesses,” the brand wrote in a statement.

“At BECCA, an accumulation of challenges, together with the global impact of COVID-19, has sadly been more than our business can withstand, and we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to close down the BECCA brand at the end of September 2021.”

The closing of Becca Cosmetics is part of Estée Lauder’s Post-COVID Business Acceleration program, WWD reports.

“Our strategic priorities for fiscal 2021 rightly balance investment in these engines with cost discipline amid the ongoing pandemic. Through the Post-COVID Business Acceleration Program announced today, we are better aligning our brick-and-mortar footprint to improve productivity and invest for growth,” the company revealed in an August press release.

“We are well-positioned to drive growth as the market dynamics support it, yet remain equally mindful of the effects of COVID-19 on consumers, the retail sector and economics, in general, as well as geopolitical uncertainty.”

Over the years, Becca has partnered with mental health organizations and plans to continue its work until the very end.

“We’ve done meaningful work supporting mental wellness with the JED Foundation and Mental Health Mates and will continue to do so through our commitment to The Trevor Project this coming June.” the statement read.

“Together, we put our best light out into the world, and for that, we are forever grateful.”

Although all of the Becca Cosmetics team will be left unemployed, the Estée Lauder Companies is expected to transfer some of those workers into positions with other Lauder brands.
