Ex-Disney Channel Actor Jailed For Allegedly Enticing Minor Into Sex

A judge has sentenced actor Stoney Westmoreland to years in federal prison after allegedly arranging to have sex with a minor using the dating app Grindr back in 2018.

Westmoreland received a 24-month jail sentence and ten years of supervised release due to the incident, TMZ reported.

The 52-year-old was originally charged with enticement of a minor over the internet, but he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of using interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor.

Members of the Salt Lake City Police Department and the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force arrested Westmoreland in Utah back in December of 2018 after arranging to have sex with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old on Grindr, a report by E! Online said.

The actor, known for his role in the Disney Channel sitcom “Andi Mack,” took a ridesharing service to meet the boy in an attempt to take the minor back to his hotel, as per court documents obtained by Deadline. He also allegedly sent sexually explicit photos.

The age of Westmoreland’s alleged victim was reportedly the same as the central characters on “Andi Mack” and the young actors who played them.

Disney cut ties with Westmoreland following the incident, resulting in him being charged with one second-degree felony count of enticing a minor by internet or text, four three-degree felony counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor and one third-degree felony count of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.

Westmoreland thought he was roleplaying with an adult online during the exchange since he did not believe he was communicating with a minor, a doctor who evaluated the actor said.

In addition to his sentence, Westmoreland must cooperate with DNA collection and register as a sex offender as part of his plea deal.

He must report all of the accounts he uses for electronic communications and storage, including social media. They will be subjected to random searches and inspections.

Westmoreland is also restricted from contacting individuals under 18 years old without adult supervision.

The actor had 54 roles credited to him as of 2018, the year he was arrested, based on his IMDb page. Among these credited roles were appearances on the shows “Better Call Saul,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Scandal.”
