USA Network has canceled “Eyewitness” after one season. But Adi Hasak, who developed the thriller based on the Norwegian show “Øyevitne,” revealed on Twitter that the Julianne Nicholson-led series may not be dead yet.

Shortly after Deadline broke the cancellation news, Hasak wrote in a series of tweets that he is working hard to find a new home for the show. Although the show’s season average was only 0.17 in the 18-49 demographic and 639,000 total viewers, Hasak believes that the series had over a million of followers. Sadly, due to rampant pirating, not all viewers were counted.

Despite USA’s decision not to renew “Eyewitness” for Season 2, Hasak thanked the network for giving the show a 10-episode straight-to-series order. He also expressed his gratitude to Universal Cable Productions for co-producing the series, which followed two small-town teenage boys (played by Tyler Young and James Paxton) who witness a murder while hooking up in a cabin.

In an interview with Deadline in October, Hasak revealed that “Eyewitness” was actually pitched as an anthology series with the notion that it might reboot every year with a different story and a different set of characters. “The show was sold as an anthology,” Hasak said at that time. “I’m really enamored with shows like ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘American Crime.’ I told USA that this would be an anthology called ‘Eyewitness’ where every season would be told from the point of view of someone who witnesses a crime.”

But when the show premiered and the fans have started to express their love for the characters on social media, Adi TV Studios came to a decision to keep the original cast for a potential sophomore run. “If all goes well and we get a Season 2, we’re definitely leaning toward using the same cast and characters,” assistant producer Jennifer Coté told TV Goodness last December. “The fandom has spoken out loud and clear about their love for these particular characters, so we’ve already been brainstorming what journeys we’d want to see them go on next.”
