Select news organizations have spread false claims about President Joe Biden's climate crisis plans, claiming that his proposal will limit Americans to eating only one burger a month.

The Daily Mail and Fox News both published stories or clips highlighting these false claims. Daily Mail’s headline said, “How Biden’s climate plan could limit you to eat just one burger a MONTH,” while Fox News’ quick clip outlined “Biden climate requirements” and “one burger per month.”

Republican lawmakers all over the country have angrily responded to the false claims, including Texas Governor Gregg Abbot, Donald Trump Jr., Rep. Lauren Boeburt and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

During the climate crisis summit last week, Biden announced that the U.S. would cut its carbon emissions in half by the year 2030. These plans didn’t mention any meat consumption arguments or ideas, Business Insider said.

"Speaking of stupid, there's a study coming out of the University of Michigan which says that to meet the Biden Green New Deal targets, America has to, get this, America has to stop eating meat, stop eating poultry and fish, seafood, eggs, dairy, and animal-based fats,” Larry Kudlow of Fox News stated.

Both news outlets cited a University of Michigan study that was published in Jan. 2020, just before Biden took office. The study focuses on reducing the consumption of animal-based foods in the diet of Americans by 90% -- the equivalent of one burger a month -- in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to target levels.
