Ewan McGregor plays the dual roles of brothers Ray and Emmit Stussy in Season 3 of “Fargo.” While playing both characters gives him satisfaction, the Scottish actor has admitted that he enjoys portraying Ray more than Emmit.

“Because they are both very different, they are satisfying in different ways,” McGregor told The Hollywood Reporter of playing the Stussy siblings during a roundtable interview with other actors. “But in terms of liking them, I like Ray [better]. … What’s interesting that we’re doing this during this Trump era is that Ray has become the sort of embodiment of love. He’s got a soul and a heart. And Emmit is the businessman. He has a wife and a family. He’s a faithful man, but everything is compartmentalized in a way that he’s just sort of soulless. So, Ray is more fun to play because it’s much more fun to be in love than it is to be someone like Trump.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last April, McGregor also revealed that he finds it more fun to portray Ray more than Emmit because “it’s really interesting to play somebody who’s so pissed off at life.” “Ray feels like his brother took advantage of him when he was younger,” explained the Golden Globe-nominated actor. “And when you see him with his cons, he’s quite irritating, but when you see him with Nikki Swango (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), he’s a totally different guy. He’s completely in love with Nikki, this drop-dead gorgeous con. He can’t quite believe his luck. He’s waiting for the curtain to be drawn back and realize it’s all a hoax.”

While McGregor favors Ray over Emmit, the “Trainspotting” actor also finds Emmit an interesting character to play, especially during Donald Trump’s presidency. “It’s quite interesting with the whole Trump thing because I feel sometimes there’s moments that I’m channeling like, his thin skin and the way he can react when (something bad) goes down,” McGregor told The Canadian Press.
