Fandango announced the most anticipated films of 2020, and, expectedly, some of them are Disney properties and some are superhero films, but out of the 10 films they listed, six are movies led by female characters.

Screen Rant listed these movies out and the top four movies from are action-oriented films with women in the starring roles, three of which are superheroes. “Wonder Woman 1984” came out on top with Scarlett Johansson’s “Black Widow” in second place. Following is the Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek led “Marvel’s Eternals” about the superhero gods and in fourth place is the live-action “Mulan” adaptation.

Similarly, Atom Tickets also declared “Wonder Woman 1984” as the number one most anticipated movie of 2020.

Those top 4 movies also happen to be directed by women, an impressive feat, considering only 4% of Hollywood’s top movies were directed by women, according to Women and Hollywood. Niki Caro is taking on “Mulan,” Cate Shortland directed “Black Widow,” Chloe Zhao is helming “Marvel’s Eternals” and Patty Jenkins is tackling “Wonder Woman 1984,” the most anticipated film of the year.

Another female director, Cathy Yan directed “Birds of Prey,” which is the first of these top 10 films to premiere, coming out on Feb. 7.

The James Bond 25 film “No Time to Die,” “A Quiet Place Part II,” “Birds of Prey,” Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights,” Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” and “Fast & Furious 9” finish off the list of most anticipated 2020 films.

“A Quiet Place Part II” picks up where the first one left off, where the husband (John Krasinski) died, leaving the mother (Emily Blunt) to defend her children. The first film ended with Blunt’s character cocking a shotgun and preparing for battle against the monsters, leaving us to believe the sequel could be more action-focused on the heroine.

“Birds of Prey” is also a sequel of sorts to 2016s critical bomb “Suicide Squad,” but this time with the focus on audience favorite Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) as she teams up with other female heroes taking down Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).
