NBC released the first official still of actress Allison Williams as Peter Pan Wednesday ahead of the network’s premiere of “Peter Pan Live!” later this year. In the image, the 26-year-old “Girls” star sports the iconic character’s green garb and short hairdo.

“I sort of, very tentatively, offered to cut my hair,” Williams told NBC's "Today" show Wednesday of her character's short hairstyle. “They were like, ‘You are welcome to do that, we are still going to put you in a wig ... [With] all due respect, I think I’ll hold onto my hair,” she said.

In July, NBC announced that Williams would take on the lead role of Peter alongside veteran actor Christopher Walken as the villainous pirate Captain Hook. “We couldn’t be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan,” NBC Chairman of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “We think she will bring the perfect blend of ‘boyish’ vulnerability and bravado to save the day.”

Williams first gave fans a sneak peek of the live musical in honor of the late Robin Williams and his portrayal of Pan in the 1991 film “Hook“ last month. “First day of flying lessons for Pan,” Williams posted to Instagram alongside a video of her flying with the help of a harness. “Thinking about and missing a hero of mine who did this once and left big shoes to fill.”

“Peter Pan Live!” follows the network’s wildly successful live-action telecast of "The Sound of Music" last December.

For more than a century, Peter has usually been portrayed by women, including Maude Adams, Mary Martin and Mia Farrow.

Catch Williams in her starring role Dec. 4 on NBC.
