The Flash
"The Flash" will see Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) reunite with a previously dead character for a time-travel plot line in Season 2, episode 17. The CW

Unlike its CW counterpart, “Arrow,” the team on “The Flash” doesn’t see a lot of previously deceased characters return to the show. However, that’s exactly what will happen in Season 2, episode 17 when a character who met his end in Season 1 returns for a guest role in "Flash Back."

“The Flash” is currently on a brief hiatus until March 22, where the hero will return to encounter a new female speedster in Central City. Following that adventure, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will continue his never-ending quest to find and stop the villain Zoom. In order to do that, he’ll need to figure out a way to become faster.

According to a new report from TV Line, he’ll travel back in time to seek the help of his former mentor Eobard Thawne, who at the time was masquerading as Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). While assuming his past identity, Barry will apparently run into Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett). For those that aren’t familiar, Eddie was a regular to the show in Season 1. He was the partner of Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and was engaged to be engaged to his daughter Iris (Candice Patton). When it was revealed that Eobard was his relative from the future, Eddie killed himself in an effort to stop the Reverse Flash’s evil plan in the Season 1 finale.

It makes sense for Barry to seek the help of Eobard. After all, he made his greatest strides in terms of improving his speed thanks to the villain's masterful, albeit misguided, tutelage. As ScreenRant notes, he’ll have to put up with the fact that his friend is alive and kicking, knowing all the while his ultimate fate is pretty grim. The hero has learned the hard way that it’s often troublesome to change the natural timeline two separate times, including in his most recent team up with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) of “Arrow.”

As previously reported, The Flash’s time travel adventure will come after another out-of-this-world caper on CBS’ “Supergirl.” Thanks to the discovery of Earth-2 this season, “The Flash” exists in a world with several parallel dimensions. As a result, he’ll be able to seamlessly team up with Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) before returning home to meet back up with Eddie and help take down the returning villain the Pied Piper (Andy Mientus).

"The Flash" Season 2 episode, episode 17, "Flash Back," will reportedly air on March 29 at 8 p.m. EDT.
