There will be a major death featured in “The Flash” Season 6. After the premiere episode of the show that aired recently teased this possibility, the showrunner Eric Wallace has confirmed this is indeed where the story is headed.

The following article contains “The Flash” Season 6 spoilers.

Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) days are numbered. The new crossover of the Arrowverse titled “Crises on Infinity Earth” will mark the end of the character.

The newspaper headline from the future “Flash Missing, Vanishes In Crises,” is something the fans are familiar with. In the Season 6 premiere episode, The Monitor (Lamonica Garrett) confirmed that Barry will die on Dec. 10, 2019.

Speaking to the media about the death tease, Wallace confirmed that they are not “messing around” when it comes to the death, CBR reported. The “cosmic pronouncement” The Monitor made will lead the heroes to either accept “Crises” or fight it. Every episode on the show this year will be about whether the protagonist should accept his death or fight it.

The next few episodes up to episode 6 will be about Barry thinking whether he should accept death or not, Entertainment Weekly reported. Episode 8 will start the “Crisis” crossover.

The countdown for Barry’s death will begin next week on “The Flash” Season 6, TV Line reported. The death is also significant because for the very first time the villain and the hero are in the same boat. They are both going to die, which they will realize halfway through the season, and the knowledge will make them think that they are not too different from each other.

Dr. Ramsey Rosso (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is the villain in this season. The character was specifically chosen as the baddie because he is dying of cancer, and that helps create a parallel between what he is going through and what Barry will experience.

“The Flash” Season 6, episode 2 is titled “A Flash of the Lightning.” It will air on Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW.
