A 4-year-old girl was found dead, while her mother was discovered to be in a critical condition in a hotel room in Florida.

Deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kissimmee resort near Celebration on Monday after they received a call about someone's "attempt" to kill themselves, Positively Osceola reported.

The sheriff's office deputies reached the spot after Michelle Decaro, the mother of Jacinda Decaro, who was found unresponsive, requested a well-being check on the latter, the outlet reported.

The police recovered a handwritten note from the nightstand in the room, which read: "I’m sorry," the outlet reported. The deceased child has been identified as Masiela Decaro.

Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez told WFTV they were yet to decide the official cause of the child's death, but they believe the mother had used some pills or administered the girl some form of drugs.

The Osceola Sheriff’s Office said in a statement there was no sign of any other person being involved in the incident. Authorities are probing into the matter. The motive of the attempted killing wasn't also known.

"My baby was smart. She was my little girl and unfortunately, it’s sad that it had to be her," the girl's father, Jorge Ezequiel, told News 6. "It’s not much I can say. I just wish I really knew what was going on with her mom."

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman, who had a faint pulse, was rushed to a hospital. The sheriff's office has yet not provided any health updates of the mother of the child.

In November 2019, a 78-year-old Missouri woman was charged with stabbing her daughter to death in a hotel room. Marjorie Theleman checked her daughter, Sharon, out of a nursing home Tuesday and took her to the hotel where she initially tried to suffocate her with a plastic bag but failed. Theleman then killed her with a knife and arriving deputies found the mother with a self-inflicted knife wound.
