A jury convicted Nathan Nash, 39, in August of one count of third-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape while investigating separate assault reports filed by two women.

"What we have here is two women that were already victims before they met you," Spokane County Superior Court Judge John Cooney said while sentencing Nash on Thursday. "They were victims of violence ... then they became sexual abuse victims."

The department fired Nash after two women reported he raped them while on duty in 2019. Tatyanna Presnell, who was 25 at the time, reported that Nash raped her during a follow-up visit as part of a domestic violence investigation. A second woman testified that Nash also raped her during a follow-up visit.

Presnell agreed to be publicly identified, saying it was part of the healing process for her.

"There is a part of me that I won't be able to get back because you stole it from me," Presnell told the court Thursday. "But, starting today, right now, I am rising out of the ashes and becoming a survivor and taking back my life."

The other victim is seeking $1 million in damages from Spokane.

Nash has maintained his innocence and plans to appeal his conviction.

"My wife and two children are my whole world and I would never do anything to jeopardize my ability to come home to them every day," Nash told the court before sentencing Thursday.
