Gabby Petito Update: Family Feeling ‘Tortured’ As Brian Laundrie Also Disappears

In another unexpected twist in the case of missing Youtuber Gabby Petito, her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, who has been a person of interest in her disappearance, is also now missing.

News broke on Friday that Laundrie’s parents had finally contacted police and spoken to them — but authorities were not able to speak with the 23-year-old.

“We understand the community’s frustration, we are frustrated, too. For six days, the North Port Police Department and the FBI have been pleading with the family to contact investigators regarding Brian’s fiancée Gabby Petito,” North Port, Fla., police said in a statement. “Friday is the first time they have spoken with investigators in detail.”

Shortly after, Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino made a statement that Laundrie’s whereabouts were “currently unknown.”

“We’ve been trying all week to talk to his family, to talk to Brian, and now they’ve called us here on Friday, we’ve gone to the home, and they’re saying now they have not seen their son,” police spokesperson Josh Taylor told CNN’s Chris Cuomo.

However, while law enforcement has said they are now working on multiple missing persons’ cases, the Petito family attorney, Richard Stafford, made it clear that the family doesn’t believe their daughter’s fiance is also missing but has instead gone on the run to evade authorities.

“All of Gabby’s family want the world to know that Brian is not missing, he is hiding. Gabby is missing,” he said in a statement to CNN.

The news regarding Laundrie came the same day that Taylor revealed the family was feeling despair over the lack of answers from Laundrie, who drove back in the couple’s van to the North Port home he and Petito lived in with his parents on Sept. 1, and despite the van being seized, Laundrie refused to speak to authorities, and instead referred them to his lawyer.

“They’re being tortured right now by the potential of someone having information and not relaying it,” Taylor said in an earlier press conference on Friday.

Petito’s family reported her missing on Sept. 11, after they last heard from her on Aug. 25, when she shared she was in Wyoming, She was last seen in Salt Lake City on Aug. 24.

Since news of her disappearance, more details have surfaced regarding the couple’s relationship, showing that there were some cracks despite their initial video on their Nomadic Statik Youtube channel, which showed the pair in happier times.

Not only did police bodycam footage get released which revealed the couple’s altercation near the entrance to Arches National Park on Aug. 12, but a friend has also come forward to share suspicions regarding behavior that seemed odd for the 22-year-old before she went missing.
