Season 2 of “The Gifted” is all about continuing to explore characters’ powers and relationships, in both familiar and unusual ways. Stars Amy Acker (Kate) and Coby Bell (Jace) opened up about these new storylines while promoting the Fox show at New York Comic Con earlier this month.

In the first few episodes of the new “Gifted” season, Kate and Marcos (Sean Teale) spent a lot of time together, bonding over the fact that they’ve had loved ones leave them. This heightened friendship of theirs is something Acker hopes fans will get to see more of.

“Sean and I, we really love doing scenes together, and I like that they are kind of on the same mission and have this bond over having lost Andy [Percy Hynes White] and Polaris [Emma Dumont] — or Lorna, whatever we call her now — so, I hope so,” Acker told a small group of reporters.

She continued: “The great thing about this season is we are able to kind of interact with different characters, in a way that we didn’t last year when we were all kind of in one group, all together, all the time. So, it’s fun getting to see different people have new relationships as this season goes on.”

While her character’s commiserating with Marcos, Bell’s is on a bit of a solo journey after leaving Sentinel Services at the end of Season 1. That won’t last long, though, as he’ll find new people to partner up with in his personal mission to bring unlawful mutants to justice.

“Yeah, he leaves Sentinel Services, he and his wife are trying to move on, trying to move on with life, and I think [when] we just last saw him it looked like he was gonna move on with life, but I think we all know that’s not gonna happen,” Bell told International Business Times a few days before Season 2’s third episode aired. “So, he’s kind of like a man with a mission, but with no authority or no authority to get it done. So, along come the Purifiers, who are this like militant anti-mutant group, and they’re like, ‘We can use a dude like you,’ and he’s like, ‘Well, I could actually kind of use you guys.’ And then things get bad from there. Oh wow, they get bad.”

If that wasn’t enough of a tease from them of what’s to come in Season 2, Bell also revealed to reporters that episode 10’s one of his favorites because it was really “challenging work” for him, and there are some good Thunderbird (Blair Redford) and Jace moments.

“Oh yeah, I like that one, too,” Acker agreed. “I like Jace and Thunderbird having a thing.”

Check out everything they alluded to and more when “The Gifted” Season 2 continues to air on Fox on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT.
