Fans have already seen the last of Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) in “Gotham.” FOX

The Fox show “Gotham” has a habit of killing off characters then bringing them back to life. This is happened with Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and the Joker (Cameron Monaghan), not to mention Butch Gillian (Drew Powell), who will be resurrected this Season 4 as the zombie named Solomon Grundy.

However, executive producer John Stephens told Comic Book that Fish’s death in Season 3, after Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) shoved a sword through her stomach, is now permanent.

He dismissed rumors that the show still has plans to bring her back from the dead again. “I'm afraid that’s it,” said Stephens. “Now, that one was it. At a certain point, you gotta say ‘Definitely.’ People die at a certain point, and that’s the second or third time they die [on Gotham].”

Fish’s death is really going to propel the Penguin’s (Robin Lord Taylor) hold over the Gotham City underworld. The Penguin is going to be so powerful that Gordon is going to need all the help he can get just to take him down. Unfortunately, Gordon’s ever-reliable partner, Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), is no help.

“He’s (Penguin) licensing crimes. He’s basically usurped the law completely and controls what crime is permitted in Gotham. Against that tide, Jim is left alone. No one is on his side including Harvey,” Stephens explained to Fansided.

So this is where new character, Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed), comes in. “We’re going to see Jim make, in some ways, big steps toward I guess what you would call the commissionership,” Stephens told Entertainment Weekly. “But also we’re going to see Jim, in his quest to save the city, cross different ethical lines than he ever did before. It’s going to bring him to an ethical nadir that we haven’t seen him at, and it’s going to be told through the context of a relationship that he has with Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Don Falcone, who’s played by Crystal Reed this year. And that’s going to be a really compelling and interesting relationship.”

“Gotham” Season 4 will premiere on Sept. 21 on Fox.
