Lizzo received the Record of the Year award for her music track "About Damn Time" at Grammy Awards 2023. The singer dedicated her win to the late singer Prince, who died in April 2016 due to an accidental drug overdose.

"When we lost Prince I decided to dedicate my life to making positive music," she said in her acceptance speech Sunday night. "This was a time when positive music wasn't mainstream at that point. I felt very misunderstood ... but I stayed true to myself."

"Because I wanted to make the world a better place, so I had to be that change to make the world a better place," Lizzo continued.

The singer further shared a positive message.

"I'd like to believe that not only can people do good, but we just are good," she added. "We are good inherently."

The 34-year-old singer almost had a chance to collaborate with Prince before his death. She revealed last year that they even had exchanged emails regarding their collaboration.

The singer also expressed her love for Beyonce. She mentioned that she once "skipped school" in fifth grade to see the singer perform.

"You changed my life," Lizzo said about Beyonce. "The way you made me feel, I was like, 'I want to make people feel this way with my music.' Thank you so much. You clearly are the artist of our lives!"

While Lizzo donned a dramatic orange color outfit designed by Dolce & Gabbana during her red carpet appearance, the singer wore a silver shimmering dress during her acceptance speech.

The singer flaunted her red carpet look on her Instagram page Sunday:

Lizzo has been vocal about her thoughts on public platforms. Previously, she spoke about "cancel culture" in Hollywood, noting that people need to focus more on the real problems.

"This may be a random time to say this but it's on my heart.. cancel culture is appropriation," the 34-year-old singer tweeted last month. "There was real outrage from truly marginalized people and now it's become trendy, misused and misdirected."

She also called out people who body shamed her on social media.
