The surgical gloves are coming off! In episode 14 of ABC’s hit medical series “Grey’s Anatomy,” Jo (Camilla Luddington) will finally confront Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) for her catty behavior. But what exactly encourages the brave resident to stand up to her attending?

The Season 12 synopsis for the upcoming episode, titled “Odd Man Out,” reveals Dr. Weber (James Pickens Jr.) will shake up Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital when he shuffles the residents around. And yes, you guessed it, Jo ends up working alongside Meredith when the swap occurs. Because Jo is new to working with Meredith, she isn’t as familiar with Mer’s patients as Penny (Samantha Sloyan) was — and Meredith makes sure to let Jo know that when her newest resident messes up.

“You’re just not Blake,” Mer says clearly annoyed with her appointed resident.

“No, I’m not Blake. I’m Wilson. Jo Wilson,” she fires back in the sneak-peek video. “I’m a surgeon. I’m a human being I’m not some stupid lump that you can just kick around or talk down to or talk down about or dismiss and discount. I get it … you don’t like me. But I’m here. I’m in Alex’s (Justin Chambers) life and you have to start respecting that.”

Mer tells Jo that she’s “overreacting” but Jo doesn’t think she is. For several episodes the brown haired doc has felt as though Mer has been “blocking” her relationship with Alex from moving forward. (After all, Mer did kick Jo out of Alex’s bed so she could have a chat with “her person.”) Meredith’s overwhelming relationship with Alex even caused Jo to question her future with him. Could she really be married to someone who puts her second?

Meredith finally saw the errors of her ways in the Season 12 midseason premiere when her therapist questioned if she had a romantic involvement with Alex. Meredith laughed at the idea (stabbing a knife in the heart of Merlex shippers everywhere), revealing that the two of them were just friends. And that’s when it clicked that maybe she was relying on Alex too much for comfort. So, while recuperating from the attack, she told Alex to leave her house and be with Jo — who she said shared the same “Post-it kind of love” that she had for her late husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey).
