A new season of “Grey’s Anatomy” will premiere on Thursday, which means romance, scandal and twists around every corner.

The ABC medical drama ended in May, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. In the episode, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) is preparing to walk down the aisle and not everyone was happy about it. Additionally, she has getting cold feet. Meanwhile, Alex (Justin Chambers) is trying and failing to take his relationship with Jo (Camilla Luddington) to the next level. His attempts to get to the bottom of it are futile, which leaves him angry and worried for their future. While Alex is spinning his wheels, Jo decides to take a load off at a local bar. There she reveals a shocking secret that’s sure to make things rocky in Season 13. While all that plays out, pregnant April (Sarah Drew) is nearly ready to burst, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George) are on the outs and a love triangle threatens to tear two siblings apart.

Here are the five most jaw-dropping moments from the Season 12 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy”:

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is unappy about Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia’s marriage:

Although Christina (Sandra Oh) has been gone for some time, Meredith remains fiercely loyal to her. She’s none too excited to see the emergency surgeon moving on with someone else and she doesn’t care who knows it. During a conversation with Alex, who has become one of her closest confidants, Meredith says that “this wedding is doomed.”

Alex and Jo are considering having a baby:

After she turns down a proposal from her beau, Jo suggests another way of solidifying their commitment to one another — one that doesn’t involve a white dress or legally binding contracts. Jo wants to have a baby, but Alex isn’t so sure. After she catches wind of what he’s done to DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) out of pure jealousy, we’re not so sure her offer will still be on the table.

Amelia nearly gets cold feet:

Meredith has not been quiet about the fact that she’s not keen on seeing Owen marry another women and it’s gotten back to Amelia. She overhears Meredith talking about Christina, which only makes her pre-wedding jitters worse. Amelia opens up to Meredith about her nerves, telling her that while she knows Owen is “a good decent man” and is in love with her, she’s not sure she wants to go through with the wedding. Ever the realist, Meredith offers her a few options, letting her know that she’s got her back.

Amelia makes a run for it, taking a seat at the local dive bar and 7-11 for a Slurpee, but after a few drinks she realizes she has to go through with the marriage.

April and Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) baby gets an unconventional welcome:

April is heading to Owen’s wedding when she realizes that she forgot the wedding bands at Meredith’s house. Before she can get there, she bumps into Ben, who is on the outs with his wife and asks him to drive her. He agrees, not knowing what’s about to happen. While inside the house April starts experiencing contractions. She tells Ben and orders him to help deliver the baby. He’s hesitant, but finally agrees. April lays on the kitchen table and Ben preps for delivery. During his preliminary examination he discovers that the baby is breech, meaning a cesarean section is necessary. April orders him to do the procedure, but he’s none too excited. Jackson listens on speaker phone, bracing for the worst.

Next viewers see an ambulance speeding toward the hospital with Ben and April inside. The new mother is wheeled inside as Ben lags behind with her baby safely tucked in his coat.

Jo reveals the reason she can’t marry Alex:

After an evening at the bar with Amelia and DeLuca, Jo and the New Zealand native are in her apartment together when she reveals that she does love Alex — but can’t marry him because she’s currently legally bound to another man. She doesn’t have feelings for him, but can’t face him to ask for a divorce because of his abusive tendencies. She says all this while undressing, which makes DeLuca uncomfortable. He attempts to put her clothes back on, but struggles.

“I want to marry him [Alex], but I can’t marry anyone. I can’t marry him because I’m already married,” Jo says. “I had to make sure he would never find me.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” premieres Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
