KEY POINTS

  • Prince Charles eclipsed Princess Anne as the hardest working royal of 2019
  • Prince Charles conducted over 500 royal engagements this year
  • Princess Anne came second to Prince Charles

The hardest-working member of the royal family for 2019 has finally been named and it’s no longer Princess Anne.

According to royal expert Tim O’Donovan, Prince Charles has been the busiest royal this year with a total of 521 engagements. Princess Anne lagged closely behind her older brother with 506 engagements.

Prince William was able to complete a total of 220 royal engagements, while Kate Middleton only managed to attend 126.

But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still one of the royals that carried out fewer engagements with 201 and 83 respectively. However, it is important to note that the Duchess of Sussex went on maternity leave this year after giving birth to her son, Archie, on May 6.

O’Donovan told The Times that the list of royal engagements that he sends to the publication at the end of the year shouldn’t be seen as a form of competition among the members of the British clan.

“I just think it’s important for people to know how much the Royal Family do,” he said.

In September, a partial list of royal engagements was released by Express. At that time, the publication revealed that Princess Anne is still the hardest-working royal with 122 engagements. Lagging closely behind her is Queen Elizabeth II with 113 engagements.

Prince Charles ranked third with 108 royal engagements, and Prince Andrew ranked fourth with 88 royal engagements. Prince Edward came in fifth place with 73 royal engagements.

Prince Harry came in sixth with 60 royal engagements, while Prince William only had 55 at that time. Markle and Camilla Parker Bowles were dubbed as the least working members of the royal family three months ago with only 12 and 19 royal engagements, respectively. Middleton had 29 engagements at that time.

Meanwhile, big things may be expected from the royal family next year. While speaking with Express, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliam said that they will be reinventing themselves in 2020.
