Donald Trump’s son Barron brought changes to The White House after moving in with the POTUS.

Melania Trump and her son did not immediately move into the White House after the president’ inauguration. Instead, the first lady waited for five months before joining Trump there. When they did, Barron broke the mould in place since John F. Kennedy’s presidency, Express reported.

Trump and Melania’s son is the first son of a president to call the White House his home after JFK. All the presidents after Kennedy’s administration including Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon were fathers only to girls. Meanwhile, the presidents in between them Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush all had sons but they were adults and lived outside the White House.

Also, it is worth noting that Melania and Barron did not move to Washington DC in the summer. They stayed in New York, so that Barron could finish school.

According to CNN correspondent Kate Bennett in her book “Free, Melania,” the FLOTUS also redecorated their space because she didn’t like how Barack and Michelle Obama designed the room.

“She had it redecorated when she moved in, as she wasn’t a fan of the beige and burnt orange palette the Obamas’ decorator, Michael S. Smith, had done the room in,” Bennett wrote.

“Melania kept very little of the Obama decor, which the Obamas reportedly paid for out of pocket, to the tune of $1.5 million by the end of their eight years in the White House.”

The POTUS’ children are also allowed to decorate their own spaces. Following Barron’s move, the White House added a basketball court, a jogging track, a swimming pool, a cinema, a billiard room and a bowling alley.

Barron’s education is also different from previous White House children. All the children of the former presidents over the past 35 years have gone to DC’s elite Quaker institution Sidwell Friends. However, Melania’s son is enrolled in the private St Andrew’s School in Potomac, Maryland.

Barron’s move to the White House was considered a “downgrade.” The first son had a whole floor to himself when they were still living at the Trump Tower.
