When former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer took the 2017 Emmys stage on Sunday night, the celebrity-filled audience had quite the surprised reactions. But they weren’t the only ones.

Viewers took to Twitter to voice their opinions about the out-of-nowhere Emmys stunt they saw when watching the award show on CBS, and most opinions weren’t too favorable.

Not sure how unfavorable? One viewer, Michael Ares, tweeted, “Stephen Colbert had Sean Spicer as a part of his act at the Emmys? Why would he give time to a white supremacist fascist misogynistic pig!?”

On the other hand, one user named RywandoJones simply wrote, “thought Sean Spicer had won an Emmy for a sec.”

In case there was any confusion, Spicer did not win an Emmy. What he was at the ceremony to do was show up at the tail-end of host Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue to joke about the some of the hot water he’s been in, specifically his moment back in January when he said that President Donald Trump’s inauguration had the largest audience ever. To which reporters disputed.

At the award ceremony, Colbert wanted to know if anyone could predict this year’s Emmys audience and that’s when Spicer came on out across the stage with his podium.

“This will be the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period, both in person and around the world,” Spicer said as he made his surprise appearance.

While Spicer might’ve thought it was a great bit for him to do to try to improve his image, the viewer reactions on Twitter seem to point in the opposite direction. Here are some of the most interesting, to say the least, reactions on Twitter to Spicer’s arrival at the Emmys.
