A python ate a possum, moments after the marsupial’s baby was rescued from its pouch. The incident took place at the Coolum caravan park in Queensland's Sunshine Coast, Australia, on Thursday.

Speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Richard and Debbie Kemps said they saw the 10-feet-long python moving up a tree in a park. Suddenly, the reptile grabbed a possum and “dropped it to the ground.”

A caretaker at the park noticed the pouch and immediately rushed to the possum to pull the baby out of it. The mother marsupial was already dead. Moments after the baby was rescued, the reptile grabbed the possum and took it underneath a car where it slowly ate it in front of shocked campers. A video of the incident showed the python slowly devouring the possum underneath the vehicle.

"It was quite an educational experience. We have a small dog, the possum was probably bigger than a dog. You imagine what it could do to some of the pets here. It wasn't scared of any of the people around,” Richard said.

Meanwhile, the baby possum was taken by wildlife carers, however, its condition was not known.
