Fans of the “Divergent” series might want to pay a little more attention to the background characters in the upcoming films “Allegiant” and “Ascendant.” Oscar-winning hair stylist Yolanda Toussieng recently opened up about working on the blockbuster hits, telling International Business Times that the third and fourth movies will feature more tattoos, edgier looks and choppier hair.

"We’re getting ready to do the fourth [movie]," Toussieng told IBT at Saturday's Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS) in Hollywood. "It’s in the future, but the background [characters] is where we put a lot of attention into. I think their looks were … we got a little harder with their looks, a little choppier hair, a little more tattoos, a little more edgy ... strong and hard."

Toussieng, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Johnny Depp at MUAHS, said the leading actors, like Shailene Woodley and Theo James, will continue to have a "nice look" and won't be as edgy as some of their co-stars.

"They sometimes like our leading ladies and men to stay pretty," she explained, adding, “We tried to gather looks of tribes, and that was more for the background [characters]. Again, the leading people stayed a little more conventional."

She continued, “The director wanted things that were earthy and I think we were allowed to do that in the background, I think it showed. This one coming up will be a little easier to see that. And the one we’re getting ready to do, we’ll have more of that background.”

Fans of the series are probably glad to hear that the main characters won't be changing their looks too much, especially after Woodley's highly-buzzed about haircut for "Insurgent."

"There was a lot of feedback from that," Toussieng admitted. "Because the followers that followed her character from the books were a little bit upset that she cut that hair.”

"The Divergent Series: Allegiant" will be released March 18, 2016, and "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" hits theaters June 9, 2017.
