J.K. Simmons has opened up about portraying Commissioner Jim Gordon in "Batgirl," noting that fans will get to see more of the character's "domestic side" in HBO's upcoming movie.

"Batgirl was a treat, for a number of reasons," Simmons told Collider in an interview published Wednesday. "My little bit in Justice League was, at the time, meant to be, 'Look, we're gonna introduce this guy and we're gonna see more of him in the future.' I didn't have a whole lot to do."

The 67-year-old actor went on to explain his relationship with his on-screen daughter Barbara Gordon, played by 27-year-old actress Leslie Grace. However, he had to stop himself from revealing more details at some point, afraid that he might give away spoilers.

"In Batgirl, because of the relationship between Commissioner Gordon and his daughter, it's much more of a domestic aspect of Jim Gordon," he explained. "We do get to see some fun, out in the street... Well, I'm gonna stop now because I really don't wanna do any spoilers."

"But it was fun to do the stuff with Leslie Grace, who plays Batgirl, and get to portray a different aspect of Jim Gordon, other than as Commissioner Gordon," he added.

Simmons was last seen in the TV series "The Daily Bugle" and "Invincible." He will appear next in "Night Sky," "Glorious," "Little Brother," "You Can't Run Forever" and "My Only Sunshine." The actor will also lend his voice to a character called Captain Putty in the upcoming animated movie "Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers."

As for Grace, she previously shared her thoughts about playing Batgirl for the first time, noting that she felt like she had some "imposter syndrome" the whole time. She also revealed in an interview that she didn't reach out to other female stars who played superheroes, like Gal Gadot and Alicia Silverstone.

"I probably should have," she said. "It's like almost a little overwhelming and hard for your brain to catch up to the magnitude of what it is that you're doing that it almost feels like it's happening in a vacuum."
