A public college in Manhattan was forced to close its institution on Wednesday after a student tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday.

The City University of New York (CUNY) tweeted that a student enrolled at John Jay College of Criminal Justice tested positive for the virus, said MSN.

The student, however, had not been back to the campus after developing symptoms over the weekend.

“Our thoughts are with the student and we wish her a full recovery,” said CUNY in a separate post, adding that health officials pointed that the infection posed no threat to the community.

The closure stemmed from an abundance of caution, it said.

The New York Post, who echoed a statement from school president Karol V. Mason, reported that John Jay College will use the day to consult with public health and state and city officials.

In addition, the school's administration will be in direct contact with other students should they have any questions regarding the recent issue.
