The planned "John Wick" TV series, titled “The Continental,” is proceeding as planned. The show will be a prequel to the popular movies and it will bean origin story of how the hotel came into existence. New details about the show and its release date have now surfaced online.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association, Starz President and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch reveled that he had a pitch meeting for the first season recently, where they discussed the overall strategy for the franchise, Deadline reported. Hirsch didn’t elaborate on the plot of the show, but he confirmed that it will be an origin story.

Hirsch and the others at Starz apparently like the team of writers they have assembled for the show. They are all trying to make sure the TV series gets the right release date because they don’t what it to interfere with the release of the next chapter in the “John Wick” movies.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” is set to be released on May 21, 2021. Hirsch revealed that “The Continental” will be released shortly after the movie comes out.

As far as details about the casting and start of production are concerned, Hirsch didn’t share any details. He did tease that things are “moving along,” IGN reported. If the TV series has a release date of mid-2021, the cameras should start rolling at least by the latter half of this year.

On the question of Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Wick is concerned, Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik previously confirmed that they were discussing this possibility, IGN reported. The character is expected to appear at some point on the show, but it remains to be seen if it will be in the first season.

John Wick will not be in the lead role in “The Continental.” Details about the new hero may be revealed in the coming months.
