It appears Johnny Depp will sport his top hat once again for the sequel to “Alice in Wonderland.” The actor is in talks to reprise his role as the Mad Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland 2,” according to Deadline.

James Bobin, the director of “The Muppets,” is said to be in negotiations to direct the film, Digital Spy reported. The script will be written by Linda Woolverton, the writer of the recent “Alice in Wonderland” adaptation. The film was directed by Tim Burton and brought in more than $1 billion worldwide after its release in 2010.

Taking another run at the role will be a good opportunity for Depp, who has faced a few challenges with his last couple of flicks. Depp’s most recent movie, “The Lone Ranger,” has performed terribly at the box office since opening July 3. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it could lose Disney more than $150 million.
